Snodland CEP School Curriculum Intent
At Snodland CEP School we believe every child is unique and that all of our children have God-given talents that it is our duty to nurture and develop in order for each and every one of them to have the opportunity to shine and succeed. Along with their individual talents, our distinctively Christian Values and Keys to Learning allow all of our children to be prepared for the next stage of their education and more importantly, to leave us as outstanding citizens of this world, who are equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to open the doors to a world of opportunities and possibilities.
Our curriculum is an ambitious one for all children at our school and one that is coherently planned and sequenced to ensure that every child is able to achieve. Reading takes high priority in our school; reading will allow our children to perform better in all areas of the curriculum, develop a broader vocabulary, increase their general knowledge and provide them with a better understanding of the world around them; all things that are essential for advancing our children’s Cultural Capital and therefore their chances of being successful during their school life and in the future.
All subjects are taught explicitly and all have equal importance. High-quality teaching and learning in History, Geography and the Arts will give our children knowledge of our world as it once was, as it is now and what it will be like in the future; we are passionate about the fact that we are responsible for the world God created for us and making it sustainable for future generations. We believe it is vital that all of our children have access to high-quality Forest School teaching, allowing them to develop a deep and meaningful connection to the outdoor environment. The Forest School approach to exploration and risk means that our children constantly expand on their strengths and abilities by solving real-world issues, building self-belief and resilience; skills that are vital for being life-long learners.
Our Subject Leaders are highly skilled and knowledgeable about the subjects they lead; our personalised Knowledge Organisers and Progression documents are unique to our curriculum and are the foundations for planning carefully detailed and well-sequenced teaching and learning experiences. We recognise that progress means knowing more and remembering more and that children are more likely to understand new concepts, therefore gaining more knowledge, if they make connections between new learning and previous learning. More knowledge gives our children more options, more opportunities, more power, allowing every child to make informed choices and live their life to the full, to the glory of God.
